Okay, interesting surprise to wake up to on Twitter and Tumblr after I’ve near exhausted whatever neurons I have left on this research project I’ve been working on all week, and believe me…I’m bloody tired.

So what the hell happened at DC Comics that James Robinson’s no longer working for them? Mind you, I haven’t been a fan of all the creative decisions he’s made to Earth-2, but there’s no denying he was actually selling the book and actually got otherwise uninterested people interested in Earth-2.

Considering that he was very enthusiastic about Earth-2 and had some long term plans in the works for 2014, it’s rather shocking to me that he’s suddenly booted off the book with issue #16. That doesn’t sound like good news at all.

Someone know what that kerfuffle was about? There has to have been one for news of this nature to come out of the blue like that.

If you can find her in Earth 2 that would be really helpful too because I’m not doing that one again to find her!

James Robinson confirmed on a podcast with ComicVine that Pandora does not appear on Earth-2, which is why none of the Earth-2 heroes appear on Pandora’s collage outside of Huntress and Power Girl.

He did say that Pandora was supposed to originally appear on Earth-2 as well, but the idea was ultimately scrapped since it’s an alternate reality.

It does at least further solidify my theory that Desaad is the guy Huntress and Power Girl saw and followed through the boomtube from Earth-2, especially if you consider how issue #6 of Justice League ended for both Desaad and Steppenwolf.

If I turn out to be right though, I may have potentially spoiled the climax to Worlds’ Finest…..which would not be a good thing, I don’t think.

At least we’ll be able to blame Desaad later for Huntress and Power Girl’s current problem? :P

Helena Wayne (and possibly Power Girl on the far right) is featured on the spread page of next month’s Trinity of Sin: Pandora. From DC’s News page:

Back in September of 2011, we launched The New 52. And in each #1 issue, Pandora made a cameo appearance. But what was she doing in each of these books?

Well next month, this question will finally start to get answered. TRINITY OF SIN: PANDORA will find this mysterious character starring in her own ongoing series. Today, take a look at this incredible spread from the series’ debut issue, which shows Pandora’s appearances in all of the New 52 #1s. The twist? They’re all seen from her perspective for the very first time. She’s clearly on a mission to find something … but what – or who – could that be?

The interesting thing here is that Helena Wayne did not make her debut in the New 52 until a month after the initial relaunch, and the other two books that she appeared in didn’t launch until eight months later.

Between her Huntress miniseries, Earth-2, and Worlds’ Finest Pandora was no where to be found in either of those books.

So unless I really missed something here, I think it’s safe to say her debut book next month will be the first time Pandora sees Helena Wayne in the New 52?

What do you guys think?

Just giving you all a heads up that I’ll be extremely busy these next couple of weeks since I’ll be shuffling my time between work, research, and a few other projects that I have coming along the way.

You can still look forward to my review for Supergirl #20 later this week and this week’s ‘Badass Comic Woman,’ but after that my posts will be more sporadic and largely dependent on whatever free time I manage to get between now and June.

I came across an interview Geekscape did with James Robinson back in April on DC Cosmic Teams. It’s a short interview but quite interesting. Here is what part of what he had to say about Fury.

Robinson-Yes you will, and you’ll see them both in general stuff as you see the world taking shape, because I’m still building the world every issue. You’ll also see it very specifically with Fury and her backstory, and who her father is… that will blow your mind when you find out who her father is.

Geekscape-Does she even have a father?

Robinson-She has a father. She wasn’t sculpted out of clay.

Geekscape-Now was your Wonder Woman sculpted out of clay? (the main Earth’s Wonder Woman was changed from being sculpted from clay to the daughter of Zeus as part of the New 52 reboot)

Robinson-I believe so. I wanted to keep that part of the mythos alive, but with her daughter Fury there is a whole back story and a whole drama about who her father is, and it ties in to the whole more feminist culture and everything, so just bear with me.

The interview also goes into what James thinks about the Spectre and how he could possibly use him.

While I am relieved to know Earth-2 Wonder Woman has her original origin, at the same time I find his earlier confirmation that Steve Trevor is no longer Fury’s father a bit troubling.

If Fury’s father in this newer continuity turns out to be a God or some Super-powered being, then I hate to say that Robinson is off to a bad start if his goal is to preserve the feminist aspect of Wonder Woman’s myth.

(And this isn’t even going into ALL of the issues of sexism that the Earth-2 women have been dealt in the New 52).

Nice silhouette though ‘ruthless’ isn’t really the word I’d associate with Helena Wayne.

Tough-as-nails, sure. But ruthless? That ain’t how Bruce and Selina raised her.

Do you think Kate Bishop was a bit inspired in Huntress when she was created? I mean besides the physical appearance I feel like they have a few things in common.

That’s a very good question.

I don’t know if Allan Heinberg or Jim Cheung are fans of the Huntress themselves, but I’m honestly inclined to believe that any resemblance between Kate Bishop and Helena Wayne/Bertinelli is purely coincidental for various reasons.

The first obvious one is that Kate’s look is largely based off of Clint Barton’s who’s signature look predates Helena Wayne who was created in 1977. Clint’s been around since 1964 which means the colour purple and the Huntress-looking mask were signatures of his long before Helena Wayne made them cool.

It is also worth noting that at the time of Kate Bishop’s creation in 2005, Helena Bertinelli was serving as the Huntress during that time. In addition to being consistently depicted as angry/tough-as-nails by writers, she had also been wearing a more generic-looking mask for nearly 16 years before getting her Helena Wayne-inspired mask around that same year.

Personality-wise, I don’t think Kate has that much in common with Helena Bertinelli since they both respond to situations very differently. At best, they both have the ‘personal trauma as a main motivator’ in common, but beyond that they have completely different personalities. It can be argued that her personality is closer to that of Helena Wayne who is more relaxed, more optimistic, and more self-assured as a heroine, but there are also many other heroines like that between Marvel and DC.

The same is also true about their social status as wealthy women. That’s not really a unique trait for either Kate or Helena since many heroes are wealthy socialites, CEOs, heirs, etc in the genre.

Well, this is my last Mother’s Day post for the day…although it’s no longer that on my corner of the planet but for some of you it is.

Hopefully you guys have spent a wonderful Sunday with your mums, and hopefully you’ve let her know how important she’s been in your life. :)
